Countries with MEPS for motors

According to the database maintained by SEEEM partner CLASP, the following 10 countries have mandatory Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for electric 3-phase induction motors in place: Australia, Brasil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Taiwan, and USA; and MEPS are under preparation in Chile, Thailand and Vietnam. MEPS are also in place around the world for various motor systems.

Check the complete MEPS list also with testing standards, labels and voluntary standards on the CLASP website at the link provided below. If you know of MEPS projects in your country that we are missing, please let us know.

IEA Motor Experts Invite G8 to Consider SEEEM
The International Energy Agency (IEA) hosted an Industrial Electric Motor Systems Efficiency Workshop on 15-16 May 2006 in Paris. The workshop proceedings recommend that G8 governments consider engaging in and supporting initiatives to promote convergence on technical harmonization (first test procedures, then efficiency classes, marking schemes, etc.) and share experience, derive best practice and coordinate measures to promote efficient motor systems (e.g., mandatory and voluntary performance requirements), for example, through the SEEEM initiative. The document also points out that the Standards for Energy Efficiency of Electric Motor Systems (SEEEM) initiative could "play an important role at the interface between the standardisation bodies and government regulators."

We hope to recruit additional G8 member countries to support SEEEM in the coming months.

The workshop report is available via the IEA website or below.
